The Gilmer Road and Midlothian Road reconstruction has been progressing along nicely. The mild weather has allowed a lot of work to be completed this fall, and work is now beginning to move towards winter shutdown. A new phase of work began in October and brought many changes to the job site. In late September Midlothian Road traffic was moved onto the newly built lanes to allow the removal of the remaining existing pavement. The contractor has completed the removal of all of the existing pavement on Gilmer Road east side and Midlothian Road south side (except for a small section in the southwest corner of the intersection). The new storm sewer system has been installed throughout the project, and the stone base has been placed. The new concrete curb has been installed on the south side of Midlothian Road and the base graded for pavement. Late last week and Tuesday of this week, the contractor installed the first 3 of the 4 layers of asphalt on Midlothian Road. The concrete curb on the south leg of Gilmer Road was installed last Friday (11/4), and the north leg is set to begin installation on Tuesday (11/8). Permanent landscaping has been installed in many areas along both roads as well.

The asphalt pavement on Gilmer Road is anticipated to be placed the week of 11/14/22, weather dependent. Once the asphalt is placed, sidewalk installation and permanent landscaping will follow. Work at the intersection of Gilmer Road and Midlothian Road will also continue to complete the remaining sections in the intersection. This work will require additional traffic controls and flaggers in order to complete.

Stay tuned to the website for future updates.

Please drive carefully through the construction zone, refrain from cell phone use, and watch for equipment and workers. Thank you for your patience as we work to complete the new roadway!
